I leave spiritual boot camp not clickbait!!!!
What's up, y'all? I hope everything's going well. (Keep scrolling, text and pictures mixed!)
Things are going okay for me out here. My last email left me off at the MTC with a couple days left. My last couple days at the MTC were pretty good. Went to the gym, went to my classes and hung out with my MTC district. They are all amazing people that I love and I'm so sad that I don't get to hang out with them every day like I used to.
And of course we had everyone's favorite, general conference which as a missionary is one of the most spiritual impact full things you can do. They had amazing topics.I especially liked the Elder Cook's talk when he talked about the Casper temple here in Wyoming.
On Saturday, in the afternoon between sessions of the general conference, the cafeteria was serving steaks. I got challenged to eat as many as possible. I managed to eat 5 of them, which was a terrible decision because they were all terrible. Sunday was also amazing and I enjoyed all the different talks and devotionals we had after.
Monday was a happy yet sad day as we checked our luggage and the members of our district and teachers signed our stuff. I had everyone signed my Colorado flag. Then that evening we had had a testimony meeting with all the members in our district which was a super powerful and an amazing experience. I really enjoyed it, then I said goodbye to all the sisters because I would not be seeing them the next morning because Tuesday morning I woke up at 3:00 am to catch the bus to the airport. It ended up being a train then another train and then we finally made it to the airport. Once we made it to the airport, we went through TSA. My bag got pulled by security and I thought I was done for but they just had to double check that I had nothing in my bag that was contraband. So I made it through on time.
At the airport, we had the first real food we had had in 3 weeks. Which was the tastiest breakfast sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. Then we finally made it to our airplane and took off for the Denver airport.Once we landed, it took us a second to navigate Denver airport. For anyone who's been there will understand, it's a really weird airport. I was finally able to meet my mission president who when he first met me thought my name was Elder Johnson Which is weird because there was no one traveling with us named Elder Johnson. So I quickly corrected him and told him my name was Elder Thomson which was kind of funny.
They then took us back to the mission home and had a delicious lunch of Mexican food and did some training on being a missionary. Then I was finally able, over a zoom call, meet my trainer and find out where I would be serving.
I am serving in the casper Wyoming Zone in the Red Butte and Garden Creek wards. The next morning I got on the transfer bus to to Casper. Along the way I said goodbye to my MTC companions, Elders Waite and Sheridan. If it sucked to say goodbye to these amazing young men who I see as my comrades in spiritual arms.
I finally made it up to Casper late that afternoon and immediately started doing some missionary work meeting new people and knocking doors. And that's really what I've been doing for the last couple days. Knocking doors. It's hard work and sometimes very exhausting but I'm seeing benefits from what I am doing. I'm enjoying it. I will not lie, some days are really hard and I really miss my friends and family back home. But the Lord is blessing me and my family for the service I am doing. I hope everything is going well.
